For the Indian Bride: The Lehnga Choli

India is a vast country with different cultures, ethnic groups and religions. Traditional Indian wedding practices and customs vary depending on which part of India you come from. Another factor that varies according to your hometown is your traditional Indian wedding attire.
The Lehnga

A lehnga is a toe-length garment worn below the waistline. It is a long, flowing skirt with a delicately flared bottom. It is typically worn with a choli, or a cropped blouse; the dupatta, a sheer piece of fabric, like georgette, is often worn around the head and the neck area like a scarf or a veil.
Lehngas are made of rich fabrics like crepe, silk, tussar, chiffon and georgette. The patterns and designs of this long skirt often match the accompanying choli. Popular lehnga embellishments include intricate beadwork, mirror work, embroidery and zari work.
The Bridal Lehnga and the Lehnga Choli

What makes the lehnga, or more precisely the lehnga choli, a favorite of most brides is that it looks good on all women, regardless of height or body size. The lovely lehnga choli combination is formal enough to be worn to a traditional Indian wedding, but it’s also dressy enough for other formal events.
The bridal lehnga’s intricate designs may include ornate embroidery and mirror work. If you can afford it, you may even have your lehnga decorated with real silver, gold and precious stones. The lehnga choli is designed to make a bride feel like a real Indian princess.

Wear your lehnga with the right bridal accessories and jewelry. Go for lovely dangling earrings, bangles, tikka or neck chokers. Make sure the jewelry design complements your lehnga style.
Complete your “princess-bride” appearance with the lovely and traditional Bindi. Although traditionally the bindi was a red dot placed on a married woman’s forehead, these days it serves as a fashion statement worn by ladies of all ages. If you want a more colorful bindi, go for colored stones over the traditional red dot.
