Safa: Sheer Elegance

The Safa

The safa is what most Hindu grooms opt to wear on their special day but the males on both sides wear safas as well. This traditional headpiece is a turban that either extends to the back or has no sash at all. It comes in a huge variety of designs and colors that express participants’ culture and religion. This garment is worn on special occasions, especially weddings.

Cultural Significance
The turban is a symbol of consecration and dedication, and is essential for anointment. This garment is very well known, even to people who are not part of the Hindu culture. It is certainly one of the things that make people who practice this religion unique from everyone else. You can easily tell if a person has a Hindu background by the clothes that they wear and the safa, or the turban.

So is there a difference between a Safa and a turban? And why don't Indian girls wear turbans? I'm really curious because we have Indian neighbors.

Hmm and I was wondering what it was called. I'm a big fan of Bollywood (Indian) movies and there colorful costumes always kept me interested.
