Silk Ties: The Refined Choice

Silk has long been used to make gowns and other beautiful clothes

We often associate silk with beauty, elegance, and affluence; it is often the fabric of choice, especially by rich people, when it comes to formal wear. Silk gowns are frequently seen in weddings and other formal occasions, in addition to silk shirts and dresses. But another article of clothing that uses silk is neckties. Especially in weddings where everyone is expected to wear their best, silk ties are the ties of choice for those who can afford it.

In contrast to the elegance we associate with silk, this fabric is in fact created by insects – moth larvae, to be exact. The Chinese Domesticated Silkmoth is responsible for the fabric many refined people enjoy. The thread comes from the cocoon the moth larva weaves when it starts changing into a moth. Silk farmers gather these cocoons, cooks the thread, and either weaves or prints them into a fine fabric.

Because of its nature, silk is more sensitive than cotton or polyester. Dry-cleaning silk clothing is almost always recommended, and silk ties are no exception. Silk ties typically have a nice, smooth finish, although textured silk ties and cravats are also available. This type of silk tie uses rough, woven silk as its primary fabric.
