Centuries ago, during the time when chivalry and romance were at the forefront of gentlemen’s minds, and ladies were confined in tiny corsets, it was not uncommon to find women donning long gloves as part of their formal evening attire.

Today, wedding gloves are no longer prerequisites when it comes to traditional weddings, but for the bride who wishes to pay homage to those days of romance, formality and chivalry, wedding gloves are available in different styles and designs. If you’re planning an ultra-formal wedding, then wedding gloves make the perfect bridal accessory to accompany your lovely gown.

Picking out your wedding gloves can be a confusing affair. To make the right choice, you have to know the options available to you. To help you find the right wedding gloves, we’ve compiled a list of the top wedding glove designs. Pick the wedding glove that works best with your wedding dress.

Wedding Glove Options

Wedding gloves are usually categorized according to length and are measured in buttons or inches. The following are the standard wedding glove lengths available on the market:

  • One Button Glove/ Short Wedding Glove: This wedding glove is both short and has only one button. It ends near the base of the palm or just under it. This is the perfect glove-choice if you’re wearing a long-sleeved wedding dress.
  • Two Button/Gauntlet or Wristlet: These wedding gloves end at the bottom of your wrist. They extend very slightly beyond the short wedding glove. Gauntlet gloves work with both sleeveless and short-sleeved wedding dresses.
  • Six Button/Quarter Length Gloves: They’re chic, elegant and stylish. These gloves have six buttons and end just below your elbow line.

  • Elbow Gloves: Elbow wedding gloves may have six, eight or ten buttons, extending from below the elbow line to the lower middle part of the arm.
  • Opera Gloves/Sixteen Button Gloves: Opera gloves are extremely elegant and are perfect for very formal occasions. These gloves extend to the elbow, and in some cases even the top of the upper arm.
  • Fingerless Gloves: These wedding gloves are perfect for the bride who wishes to show her fingers. Fingerless gloves leave the finger holes open.

These are only the lengths of the wedding gloves. Wedding gloves also come in different patterns and designs. Although satin seems to be the fabric of choice for wedding gloves, you will also find cotton and lace gloves on the market. For an elegant look that matches your tulle or net lace wedding ball gown, sheer wedding gloves make lovely bridal accessories.

Pick wedding gloves that match your wedding dress color and fabric.

Well since you're the one getting married, I would think that you should pick what you personally prefer better over what other people would say. Good luck with your wedding!
