Planning your wedding requires much thought and preparation. As the bride, you’re bound to have so many different things to take care of that it’s easy to forget some important details and bridal accessories. One of the most important bridal accessories you need to have on the big day is your bridal purse or bridal handbag.

Although you may not need to fit your regular makeup supplies, mobile phone and other handbag essentials into your tidy and tiny bridal purse, you do need to make sure that you have a few wedding essentials with you. Having your lipstick and powder by your side during your wedding reception can help you make the necessary makeup touch-ups in between eating, mingling and the never ending photo ops.

You may also need to carry an extra sanitary napkin or tampon in case of a feminine emergency. If your pantyhose or stockings are prone to snagging, then carrying an extra pair can be extremely beneficial, especially when the time for the garter toss is nearing.

Choosing Your Bridal Purse

So what exactly must you do to find the perfect wedding handbag or purse? To help you out with this wedding dilemma, we have some easy tips on how you can find the perfect wedding purse or wedding handbag.

Tip 1: Take into consideration your dress fabric.

As much as possible, go for a wedding handbag or purse made of a fabric that’s similar to the fabric used for your wedding dress. If you’re wearing a lacy wedding dress, then go for a wedding purse with either lace or velvet trimmings to match the ornate quality and texture of your dress. If, however, you’re going for a clean silk or satin wedding dress, then find a satin or silk purse to match your gown.

Tip 2: Find a purse in a color that matches your dress.

If you’re wearing an off-white or cream-colored dress than go for a pearl or ivory wedding purse. If, however, you’re donning a pristine white number, then go for a pale pearl or a white wedding purse that matches the color of your wedding gown.

Tip 3: Either model your handbag with your dress or carry around a picture of your wedding dress while shopping for your wedding handbag or purse.

According to tradition and superstition, it’s bad luck for the bride to try on her dress before the actual wedding ceremony. If you’re a strong believer in this specific superstition, then carrying a picture of your wedding dress will help you determine the wedding purse or handbag that matches your dress best.

Tip 4: Think about the right size.

You don’t need a tote during your wedding. You need a wedding purse or handbag that’s delicate, small and lightweight. Since you won’t be carrying your regular purse items, look for something small that allows you to carry a few items.

Tip 5: Make sure the detailing or the decorations of your wedding purse matches the jewelry you’re wearing or the accents of your dress.

If you’re wearing a dress with beading, then a pearl-studded or beaded wedding handbag or purse is bound to be exceptionally flattering. If you’re wearing gold or silver jewelry, match the accents or ornamentation of your purse with the type of jewelry you’re wearing; in short, gold to gold and silver to silver.

Tip 6: To avoid the stress of going through numerous handbags, you can ask your seamstress to create the wedding purse for you.

Make sure to ask your seamstress to create your tiny wedding handbag or purse from the excess of your wedding dress fabric.

Thank you for all the tips! It's really hard to find the right handbag that matches my wedding dress. I'll do what you said and bring a photo of my dress when I shop for a handbag again tomorrow. Hopefully, the store managers will have something that matches my dress.
