Fending Off Cold and Wardrobe Malfunctions with the Wedding Shawl

Winter weddings can greatly limit your choice of wedding wardrobe. An alternative to wearing long sleeves and ultra-conservative bridesmaid dresses is going for wedding over clothes.
The wedding shawl has become a staple for winter weddings around the world. It is a timeless fashion staple that never goes out of fashion. Wedding shawls are continually updated and reinvented in styles and designs.

If you’re wearing a low-cut and loose number, then a small slip of your gown’s fabric might just cause an unexpected appearance of body parts you’d rather keep hidden. A strategically-wrapped shawl can help keep you looking fashionable and subtly sexy without the risk of baring all.
Apart from being extremely functional, a wedding shawl also acts as an excellent gift from the bride. Although it’s customary for the bride to give out jewelry to her bridesmaids and maid of honor, a lovely cashmere or pashmina shawl worn during the wedding is an extremely wonderful alternative to jewelry.
When picking out wedding shawls, you have to consider three primary factors: material or fabric, design, and color. Common fabrics used for shawls include pashmina, silk, piña and satin. Choose the fabric according to how thick and comfortable it is, and how it affects the overall look of the bridesmaid’s gown. Some fabrics are sheer while others are heavy; pick the wedding shawl fabric that keeps its wearer comfortable and fashionable.

Another factor you have to consider when choosing between wedding shawls is the actual design of the shawl. Whether embroidered or beaded, fringed or knitted, base your shawl design on the overall effect of the shawl on the gown.
You can also use the wedding shawl to add a dash of color to the bridesmaid dresses. Make sure the wedding shawl color reflects the main wedding color theme.
Combine fashion and aesthetics when picking out your wedding shawl.

Can I wear a wedding shawl that's of a different color than my wedding dress? I have a red wedding dress, and I'm planning to wear a white wedding shawl? Does that work, or should I stick to red?

Shawls are great for covering up any skin imperfections and blemishes on your back, too. Especially if you're thinking of wearing those strapless or bareback wedding dresses.

Since I live in a tropical country, a shawl isn't worn as part of a wedding dress (unless it gets really cold, like when there's a typhoon lol). It might probably be interesting to wear one though. It might become a nice accessory touch.
